Fasika Demonstration 2012
Fasika is an Amharic word for Passover and represents a time of celebration and remembrance for the liberation of Ethiopia from the colonial ambitions of Italy under Benito Mussolini in 1941. Ethiopia was under the rule of Italy for five (5) years from 1935 to 1941 after which Emperor Haile Selassie I defeated Mussolini and restored the sovereignty of Ethiopia. Fasika has come to be the name associated with the celebration of the liberation of Ethiopia in May of every year. Since the overthrow of His Majesty in 1974, the I.E.W.F. has made it a time to demonstrate in front of the United Nations fr the restoration of the throne of Haile Selassie I to Ethiopia.
