Role of the Woman
The Role of Woman Within The Rastafarian Community

ROLE OF THE WOMAN

Genesis 2v21, "And Yahweh caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam where he separated the woman from Adam."
Rastalogy declares that on that day, God created man in his image and likeness.
"He created them, male and female."
The command, 'be fruitful and multiply', establishes the role of the Woman in the Divine plan of JAH. It shows the
equality of the individual, each as a distinct operation in God's objective for humanity. Irrespective of the biological
difference from man, Woman has a responsibility to the well-being of humanity.
Rastalogy recogizes the important position a Woman occupies in the area of parental obligation to the family
because she is the person who has to take care of the home and make decisions dealing with the well being of the
children and other important things. In the tenets of Rastalogy, this makes her equal to Man.
Daughter of Zion{Rastawoman} enjoys a very high degree of honor in the Rastafarian community. In 1955 Emperor
Haile Selassie I, our Divine Leader, reformed the Ethiopian Constitution and gave Woman the authority, equal to man,
to the extent Woman could become President and hold any important position in the government. Woman has a very important position in the annals of Rastafarianism and Rastalogy; the reason being; it was the visit of the Queen of Sheba of Ethiopia to King Solomon of Jerusalem which established the present Dynasty of Emperor Haile Selassie I through Prince Menelik I, Son of King Solomon and Queen of Sheba. This makes woman revered in Ethiopia.
