The Empress Menen Daughters League represents the feminine principle in the Church of Haile Selassie I as the Holy Order represents the masculine principle. Within the Church of Haile Selassie I, the DOZ plays a very critical role in the development of the Church and in achieving its aims and objectives.

Africa has accepted the challenge of the modern world and with it come grave responsibilities.  Many discouraging hours will arise before the rainbow of accomplished goals will appear on the horizon.  African civilization in its potential magnitude must be able to command fortitude, patience, tolerance and diligence.  To sustain us in all our tasks we count on the Women of Africa.
Without their relentless vigilance no aspect of our responsibilities can be attained.  Woman's role has never been so demanding, and you can be proud to answer this call for the betterment and future of mankind.
Ethiopia welcomes you and wishes you
God-speed in your deliberations.

Haile Selassie I - December 14, 1960

Empress Menen Asfaw (Baptismal name Wolete Giyorgis) (25 March 1883 Ethiopian Calendar, 3 April 1891 Gregorian Calendar – 15 February 1962) was the wife and consort of Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. Empress Menen was the daughter of Asfaw, Jantirar of Ambassel. He was a direct descendant of Emperor Lebna Dengel, through Emperor Gelawdewos and his daughter Princess Enkulal Gelawdewos and this genealogy was deleted from the official history of Etege Menen.
The title of Jantirar has traditionally belonged to the head of the family holding the mountain fortress of Ambassel, and Jantirar Asfaw was one of them. Her mother was Woizero Sehin Mikael, half-sister of Lij Iyasu (Iyasu V), and daughter of Negus Mikael of Wollo. Woizero Sehin's mother, Woizero Fantaye Gebru, was a direct descendant of Emperor Susenyos I in the "Seyfe Melekot" line.
Empress Menen and Emperor Haile Selassie were the parents of six children: Princess Tenagnework, Prince Asfaw Wossen (Emperor-in-Exile Amha Selassie I), Princess Tsehai, Princess Zenebework, Prince Makonnen Duke of Harrar, and Prince Sahle Selassie. . . . . more

The Empress Menen Daughters League, as an active group within the overall Church organization, puts on fundraisers, conferences and in some cases, health fairs for the community to educate, enlighten and inspire. . . . . more

Listed here are classes (Rastalogical and others) that was completed by a member of the Daughters of Zion.
